Content
Students will achieve basic knowledge of Greek language and basic philosophical categories of Greek thought. Through lectures basic rules of grammar will be explained, which will allow to students the ability to read/translate original texts in greek language. A major emphasis will be placed on nouns and verbs, which will be discussed in their main morphological variants. Generally speaking, following elements will be presented:
- All declinations with specific nouns
- All types of adjectives, comparison of adjectives and adverbs
- numerals
- pronouns
- all verb conjugations
- All times in indicative (present, imperfekt, FUTURE I and II, aorist, pluskvamperfekt)
- All times in optative, subjunctive, imperative, infinitive, gerundive
- basic syntactic rules of dependent sentences
During the exercises, students will practice
the acquired knowledge with the help of original Greek texts. In addition to
this, students will get familiar with the contents of fundamental authors of
Greek thought like Homer, Plato, Aristotle, Thucydides, Aeschylus, Sophocles,
Euripides, Demosthenes. Selected passages will be read in greek and
compared with existing Slovenian
translations.
