Simon Savšek graduated with honours from the School of Business and Economics in Ljubljana in 2009. After finishing his master’s studies at the European University Institute in Florence, he signed up for a PhD programme in economics at the School of Business and Economics. He was awarded PhD in 2019. Between October 2014 and September 2017, he worked at the European Central Bank, and afterwards joined the European Investment Bank, currently being Head of the EIB Group Office in Slovenia.
He published several research articles, including in international journals. His key research focuses on the impact of institutional rigidities and financial shocks on labour markets. He also contributed to several other scientific publications, including book chapters and presented at various national and international conferences. Dr. Savšek was also a Course Director at the Joint Vienna Institute.
The European Investment Bank is the lending arm of the European Union. They are the biggest multilateral financial institution in the world and one of the largest providers of climate finance. The EIB has invested in thousands of companies and projects, both across the EU and beyond, since 1959. Outside the European Union, UK and EFTA, the EIB provided €10.8 billion of financing in 2022. The EU bank is active in more than 160 countries worldwide and is a key partner of Team Europe.
