About lecturer
Dr Edgar is Professor of Strategy and Business Transformation and member of the Department of Business Management at Glasgow School for Business and Society. His main areas of research and teaching are in the field of strategic management, specifically dynamic capabilities, responsible management, business uncertainty and complexity, and innovation. He has worked with a range of organisations on Business Transformation projects in particular relating to e-Business strategies, innovation, ethical sustainability and knowledge or talent management. David’s interest in innovation relates to innovation as an element of dynamic capabilities.
He has a wide range of academic experience from programme development at all levels, to international collaboration and academic management and leadership.
Professor Edgar has successfully supervised 21 PhD students and currently has 12 more with students exploring MOOCs, Internationalisation of curriculum, employability skills, and experiences of international mobility and exchange. He is on the editorial board of a range of journals and regularly reviews for journals and conferences. In addition, he regularly contributes to international conference organising committees and acts as a specialist advisor for a range of organisations and grant awarding bodies.
David’s consultancy experience is in the area of strategy, soft systems methodology, organisational analysis, managing innovation, business processes analysis and design, scenario planning and strategic planning/reviews. He has worked with a wide range of large private, SME and public sector organisations on projects in the area of strategy, innovation, process improvement, sustainability and change. The consultancy expertise is supported by and complemented by Professor Edgar’s research interests. He has published many journal articles and a number of text books as well as industry reports and conference papers. David has an extensive international network of academic and industrial colleagues and regularly presents key note talks in Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.
