The research project links the themes of the European Union's macro-regional strategies with Slovenia's development objectives. National development strategies are an instrument for the formulation of long-term visions of socio-economic development, which allow for a strategically managed mobilisation of efforts to achieve set objectives. Macroregional strategies are an important source of support for developing and implementing the Slovenian development goals.

The project's objectives
The main research questions of the project are: In which substantive areas can the European Union's macro-regional strategies add value to the Slovenian development objectives? To what extent does implementing macro-regional strategies in Slovenia prioritize areas that strengthen a competitive and socially responsible business and research sector? How does the coordination of macroregional strategies work in practice, and what are its advantages and disadvantages?
The research is based on a mixed-methods design, including data analysis based on qualitative interviews with stakeholders and secondary and grey literature analysis. The project contributes to the scientific understanding of network governance and multi-level governance in territorial and socio-economic development. The project is relevant for better positioning the scientific sector and higher education in international cooperation. By disseminating the findings, the project contributes towards a better understanding of the European Union among its citizens.
