The University of Primorska celebrates its anniversary every year in the week around March 17, as it was entered in the court register on March 17, 2003. Thus, the UP Week is held every year, and within the framework of this week there is always a Solemn Academy, at which the UP recognizes all those who have contributed to the reputation, development and success of the University through their work or activities. This year’s awardees also include our Head of the Department of Management, Prof. Dr. Mirko Markič.
The event was first addressed by the Rector of the University of Primorska, Prof. Dr. Klavdija Kutnar, who emphasized that the University of Primorska is increasingly becoming an international, intercultural, and multilingual community. A special greeting was also extended to the students by Lana Erjavec, the President of the Student Council of UP. The solemn speech was given by Dr. Diego de Leo - Head of the Slovenian Center for Suicide Research at UP IAM. Then the UP awards for 2024 were awarded.
On the proposal of UP FM, the 2024 UP Educational Excellence Award is presented to Prof. Mirko Markič for his outstanding educational work and exceptional achievements in mentoring students across all study cycles.
Dr. Mirko Markič completed his doctoral studies at the University of Maribor in 2003 and has worked at UP FM since its early days in 1996. He is currently a full professor of management at UP FM, serving as the Head of the Department of Management and the Head of the Quality Council. He has received numerous faculty awards, including recognition for his contributions to the establishment of UP FM and development of its programme policy, as well as for his research achievements at the faculty. Additionally, he has actively participated in various governmental working bodies and professional associations, earning multiple accolades for his contributions to the field. He is a lecturer of five management courses at the undergraduate level at UP FM. He is highly regarded by students, as reflected in consistently high evaluation scores, awards and his role as a thesis supervisor across all study cycles. He has supervised students on 64 Master’s theses, 120 Bachelor’s theses and 10 doctoral dissertations as well as 61 Pre-Bologna Master of Science students. In total, he has guided more than 250 students to successfully complete their studies, demonstrating exceptional educational excellence.
At this year’s University of Primorska Ceremony, we witnessed exceptional achievements and efforts that are shaping the future path of our university. The accomplishments of our awardees are a reflection of hard work, dedication, and expertise, which we value and respect.
