EuAWE International Congress at UP FM Brings Together Researchers in Viticulture, Wine Tourism and Wine Economics

The international professional gathering of the European Association of Wine Economists (EuAWE) brought together researchers, experts, and representatives of the wine industry from around the world working in the fields of viticulture, wine tourism, and wine economics. The 5th EuAWE Congress took place from 8 to 11 June and was hosted by the University of Trieste and the University of Primorska, Faculty of Management (UP FM) in Koper. The congress was organized through a collaboration between the University of Trieste, the University of Udine, and the University of Primorska.

One of the central congress days was held at UP FM on 10 June. The event was actively supported by prof. Dr. Armand Faganel, Vice-Dean for Research and Stakeholder Engagement at UP FM, who made a significant contribution to strengthening cooperation between academia and industry. This was the first EuAWE Congress to be organized across two countries, attracting 130 participants and featuring 111 scientific contributions.

Congress participants discussed key challenges and current trends in the wine industry, including developments in wine markets, changing consumer behavior, wine tourism, sustainable development, and the use of new technologies and artificial intelligence. Special attention was also devoted to networking for future projects, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and transferring research findings into practice.

The event strengthened international cooperation between countries and highlighted the importance of viticulture and winemaking as economically significant sectors of the region. The successful organization of the congress also reflects the universities commitment to strengthening cooperation between academia, industry, and the international research community.
