On Monday, October 13, the University of Primorska, Faculty of Management, hosted Dr. Hiroshi Fujii, Professor Emeritus from Gifu University in Japan. He graduated in mechanical engineering and later dedicated his career to teaching production technologies and materials science. In Japan, he leads the NPO Institute for Forest Research, while in Europe he collaborates on the development of medical robotics projects. In addition to his scientific work, he is also well known for his long-standing role as a mentor to student-athletes, whom he has led on expeditions to the Himalayas.
Prof. Dr. Hiroshi Fujii gave a lecture to our master’s students in the Management and Sustainable Development Management programs, presenting the concept of sustainable development with an emphasis on the natural and social ecosystem. He discussed climate change from the perspective of rainfall patterns, reforestation, and extreme weather events, including the floods caused by the 2011 tsunami in Japan. In the final part of his guest lecture, he addressed the social dimension of sustainable development, highlighting the city of Hiroshima, local culinary traditions, and aspects of higher education.
His knowledge, wisdom, and energy are proof that even at the age of 85, it is possible to live a full, curious, and active life. We are delighted to include such experts from practice in our study process, as their knowledge and experience inspire our students.
The guest was invited to our faculty by Prof. Dr. Mirko Markič, Head of the Department of Management.
