Admission criteria

  • graduates with a master’s degree, 2nd cycle, or
  • graduates of an undergraduate academic degree (programmes adopted before 11 June 2004), or
  • graduates of a long-cycle master’s degree with a duration of five years and comprising 300 ECTS, or
  • graduates with a professional bachelor’s degree (programmes adopted before 11 June 2004) and a postgraduate specialisation degree (programmes adopted before 11 June 2004) with a total amount of 240 ECTS – eligible candidates are assigned additional study requirements in the amount of 30 to 60 ECTS.

Graduates who have not obtained a degree in Slovenia must obtain a decision on recognition of foreign education for the purpose of continuing education in the Republic of Slovenia. Information for the procedure is available on the website Recognition of foreign education

 

All applicants who enrol in the study program in English language are required to demonstrate English language skills at B2 level according to the Common European Reference Framework for Languages ​​(CEFR) with a corresponding certificate.

The relevant proof of compliance with this requirement can be:

  • Certificate of completion of English language examination at B2 level or equivalent certificate (eg. TOEFL iBT score of 72-94, IELTS score of 5.5-6.5, Cambridge FCE 160-179, Oxford B2 Upper intermediate EF SET 51-60, TOEIC min. 785 points, Pearsons PTE exam 59-75, and similar)
  • a certificate received by the graduate of the general matura (in Slovenia), from which it is evident that the foreign language is English at the B2 level,
  • a certificate of completion of secondary education in English language,
  • a diploma at a higher education institution in a study program conducted in English language and a confirmation (statement) that the candidate has completed the program in English language.

 

In accordance with Article 41 of the Higher Education Act, candidates are ranked in cases where the number of available places are limited.

Candidates are ranked based on the following criteria (100 points in total):

1. academic record (average GPA and final thesis grade) - up to 40 points;
2. pass mark in an oral examination - up to 60 points.


The following will be assessed by the Board in the oral examination:
1. scientific research potential - up to 40 points:
     - an understanding of scientific research, demonstrated by a conceptual outline of the research layout,
     - a qualitative assessment of the candidate's potential for doctoral study;
2. the candidate's motivation - up to 10 points:
     - the candidate's motivation as demonstrated in the motivation letter and in the interview;
3. the candidate's knowledge of the organisation and management of the research system in Slovenia - up to 10 points.

 

A ranking list will be published and candidates will be notified.

 

Transferring between study programmes is possible according to the Higher Education Act, Criteria for transferring between study programmes and other regulations of this field.

Transfer between study programmes is the enrolment in the higher year of the study programme, in case of leaving the studies in the first (initial) study programme and continuation of studies in another study programme of the same degree. The transition takes into account the comparability of the study programmes and the completed study obligations of the candidate in the initial study programme. The transition between study programmes is also enrolment of the graduate in the higher year study programme of the same degree.

Transfer is possible between study programmes:

  • which on completion of studies ensure the acquisition of comparable competencies, and
  • between which it is possible, under the recognition criteria, to recognise at least half of study requirements under the ECTS system from the first study programme relating to compulsory subjects of the second study programme.

Transferring between study programmes is granted to candidates provided that the following conditions have been met:

  • the candidate fulfils the admission requirements for the first year of study programme and requirements for the enrolment second year of study;
  • the completion of the initial study programme which the candidate is transferring from ensures the acquisition of comparable competencies as those envisaged by the study programme;
  • between study programmes, where at least half of the study obligations, according to the conditions for recognising skills and knowledge, obtained prior to the enrolment, can be recognised, according to the ETCS system, from the first study programme and related to the mandatory subjects at the other study programme.

 

Applications for transferring between study programmes are considered by the relevant Commission. In accordance with the Criteria for transferring between study programmes, the Commission takes into account the comparability between study programmes and study obligations the candidate has completed in the previous study programme that can be recognized in this study programme. The candidate may also be required to complete differential exams as defined by the relevant Faculty Commission.

Admission to the second year of the doctoral study programme Management is granted also to candidates, who have completed:

  • master of science study programme, adopted before 11 June 2004 (pre-reform study programmes),
  • specialisation study programme after having graduated from an academic study programme, adopted before 11 June 2004 (pre-reform study programmes).

Upon enrolment, the candidate is awarded 60 ECTS in accordance with the law. The relevant Commission determines the study obligations for the candidate to complete the doctoral study programme. The conformity of the learning contents from the candidate's previous study and the comparability of the scope of subjects in the credit points are taken into account.

Enrolment is also open to candidates of a comparable study programme abroad who have been, in the process of recognition of their previous studies (in accordance with Assessment and Recognition of Education Act), legally granted the right to continue their studies in the study programme.
